May. 16, 2012: BESSERAT DE BELLEFON Brut Rosé Champagne Cuvée des Moines NV (91 points, $58)

Elegant and balanced, offering a delicate range of smoke, sun-dried cherry and toasted brioche flavors, with pretty, mouthwatering acidity. Appealing as an aperitif, but would do well with light meat and fish. Drink now through 2020. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 17,000 cases made. —Alison Napjus

May. 15, 2012: CHERRY PIE Pinot Noir Napa Valley Stanly Ranch 2009 (92 points, $50)

Delivers a ripe, fleshy, baked cherry-berry core of flavors, offset by anise, spice and sage, gaining depth and persistence. The name is apt. Drink now through 2020. 2,600 cases made. —James Laube

May. 12, 2012: NEYERS Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Neyers Ranch-Conn Valley 2009 (92 points, $60)

Demonstrates the richness, subtlety and finesse achievable in 2009, with tiers of dried berry, loamy earth, cedar, tobacco and dried herb flavors, ending with rich, dry tannins. Best from 2013 through 2023. 1,044 cases made. —James Laube

May. 11, 2012: LUCIEN & ANDRÉ BRUNEL Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Cailloux 2009 (91 points, $58)

Bright and juicy, this is still quite primal, with ebullient cassis, linzer torte and blackberry fruit pumping out, before more serious tar and ganache flavors harness the back end. There's a good juicy feel through the finish. This should settle in nicely in the cellar. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Best from 2014 through 2024. 2,915 cases made. —James Molesworth

May. 10, 2012: JOSEPH DROUHIN Beaune Clos des Mouches 2009 (92 points, $95)

A touch of reduction—smoke, rubber—signals this cherry-flavored red, which is silky, dense and firm, with a lingering sweet fruit- and spice-tinged finish. Opens up with air, so decant if you drink now. Best from 2015 through 2032. 500 cases imported. —Bruce Sanderson
